Sinead explains that she actually has been advised by her doctor not to go on tour following 'a very serious breakdown between December and March.'

AceShowbiz - Sinead O'Connor was forced to call off her upcoming tour which was supposed to kick off on April 21. The "Nothing Compares 2 U" hitmaker said, "With enormous regret I must announce that I have to cancel all touring for the year as am very unwell due to bi polar disorder."

Offering further explanation, she added, "As you all know I had a very serious breakdown between December and March and I had been advised by my doctor not to go on tour but didn't want to 'fail' or let anyone down as the tour was already booked to coincide with album release."

"So very stupidly I ignored his advice to my great detriment, attempting to be stronger than I actually am," she went on. "I apologize sincerely for any difficulties this may cause." To promote "How About I Be Me (And You Be You)?", she's supposed to stay on the road until December 30.

"While touring will be canceled I do hope and plan to appear at the Curtis Mayfield tribute in The Lincoln Centre in July," she concluded.

Sinead O'Connor was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2003, and once revealed to Oprah Winfrey that she tried to kill herself on her 33rd birthday. She wed her therapist fiance Barry Herridge last December, but they split after just 16 days of marriage. The couple reconciled roughly a month later, only to part ways once again.
