Mariska Hargitay Inks New Deal to Stay on 'Law and Order: SVU'

Though the contract means the Olivia Benson depicter will remain with the studio that produces the NBC series, it does not guarantee that the procedural series will return for a 14th season.

AceShowbiz - Mariska Hargitay has signed a new contract with Universal Television which produces her long-running show "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit". Under the new deal, she will return as Detective Olivia Benson if the show returns for a 14th season, and makes a reported $500,000 per episode.

Though so, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that it does not necessarily mean the procedural series has secured a new season order. NBC is yet to announce the status of the drama series, which hit a series low (4.4 million viewers and a 1.5 rating in 18-49 demo) with its latest episode.

Hargitay recently said she had no intention to leave "Law & Order: SVU" although long-time co-star Christopher Meloni had quit the show. Admitting she's "having too much fun" with the series, the 48-year-old actress said, "It's a new show to me. It's very different."

"I get to play different things; my own story of having a boyfriend after 13 years," she went on explaining. "My character has gone on this unbelievable personal journey that is both reflected in her persona life and the storylines."
