Angelina Jolie's Sleeping Beauty film is scheduled to open wide in the U.S. on March 14, 2014, while Sacha Baron Cohen's comedy is relocated to May 16 this year to avoid clash with 'Dark Shadows'.

AceShowbiz - Angelina Jolie's Sleeping Beauty retelling "Maleficent" finally gets a U.S. release date. Walt Disney Pictures has announced that the Robert Stromberg directorial debut is set to arrive in theaters nationwide on March 14, 2014.

"Maleficent" will reveal the origin of the titular antagonistic queen and what led her to curse Princess Aurora in the fabled 1959 Disney fairytale. Providing the script is Linda Woolverton, who also penned the screenplay for 1994's "The Lion King".

While "Maleficent" has just set its official release date, Paramount Pictures' comedy movie "The Dictator" gets a last-minute shuffling as it is now pushed back from its original May 11 release to May 16 this year.

The sudden decision was made presumably to avoid the Sacha Baron Cohen-starring film from clashing with Johnny Depp's "Dark Shadows". With the new date, the comedy is now set to open wide two days before Universal Pictures' sci-fi movie, "Battleship".

Other movies which have been pushed back from their original release dates were Ben Affleck's "Argo" and Gavin Hood's "Ender's Game". Warner Bros. Pictures relocated Affleck's espionage thriller from September 14 to October 12, the date which was previously occupied by Ruben Fleischer's star-studded crime drama, "The Gangster Squad".

With the new release schedule, "Argo", which tells the story about the rescue of six American diplomats during the 1979 Iranian Hostage Crisis, is now placed in the heart of awards season. On the other hand, "Gangster Squad" still hasn't announced its new opening date.

As for "Ender's Game", the novel-adapted sci-fi movie will arrive in cinemas later than originally planned. Summit Entertainment rescheduled the film to open on November 1, 2013, instead of the previously announced date of March 15 the same year.

Currently shooting in Louisiana, "Ender's Game" follows a young boy who is recruited by the International Fleet to defeat an alien Formic race. The film stars Asa Butterfield, Ben Kingsley, Harrison Ford, Viola Davis, Abigail Breslin and Hailee Steinfeld.
