'Homeland', 'Parks and Recreation' and More Win 2011 Peabody Awards

The winners, which were chosen by the Peabody board as the best in electronic media for the year 2011, will be presented the prize in a luncheon in May.

AceShowbiz - The 71st Annual Peabody Awards gave a recognition to TV shows such as Showtime's "Homeland" and NBC's "Parks and Recreation". It was announced on Wednesday, April 4 that the 16-member Peabody Board have picked winners that have "variety in content, genre and sources of origination" this year.

Also getting the nods are HBO's "Game of Thrones" and "Treme", Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report", IFC's "Portlandia" and game show "Jeopardy". In the documentary category, the winners are Showtime's "Rebirth", which follows five people in the aftermath of 9/11; and HBO's "Earth Made of Glass", a documentary about Rwanda's genocide.

The prizes will be handed out May 21 at a New York City luncheon hosted by two-time Peabody winner Patrick Stewart. The full list of winners can be found on the official site.

"As media systems continue to expand and intensify, the Peabody Award will continue its search for excellence and significance. Programs such as those honored this year will always be noted for outstanding achievement and they will always serve as models for the best work yet to come," said Horace Newcomb, Director of the Peabody Awards.
