'Dancing with the Stars' Week 3 Recap: Katherine Jenkins Gets First 10s With Emotional Waltz
The remaining 11 couples of "Dancing with the Stars" season 14 gave a personal touch to their dances in a Monday, April 2 episode. Each pair would perform a number inspired by the celebrity contestant's past event.
Jack Wagner and Anna Trebunskaya kicked off the show with their samba, which celebrated the actor's first encounter with a daughter he never knew he had. Len Goodman liked the rhythm, especially in the hips, while Bruno Tonioli said his timing was much better this time. The actor got 24 points from the judges.
Maria Menounos and Derek Hough performed a sensual and flowing rumba, which recounted how her parents struggled to earn money as Greek immigrants. "It was a mix of the ballroom with a little touch of the bedroom in there," Len commented. Carrie Ann Inaba, meanwhile, called it "breathtaking." The "Extra" co-host earned 27 points.
Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus danced the foxtrot to recall her first nationwide tour at 13 and her education from the likes of Jackie Wilson, James Brown and Sam Cooke. Carrie Ann thought it was "sensuous and soulful," and noticed an improvement, as Bruno gushed, "You were absolutely gorgeous." The singer earned 24 points.
Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower paid tribute to his idol Michael Jackson with their samba. Len liked the exuberance and the flair, but said that he "would have liked to have seen a little more traditional samba." Bruno added that the late King of Pop would love it. The judges gave him 25 points.
Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff pulled off a romantic samba as the musician recalled the time he moved to New York City to pursue his career in the music industry. Len and Bruno praised him for getting better every week, while Carrie Ann said, "There is something so sexy and sensual about the way you move." The "I Don't Want to Be" singer earned 24 points.
Katherine Jenkins poured her heart out in a waltz she danced with Mark Ballas. She brought tears to Carrie Ann's eyes with her story of losing her dad due to lung cancer. The tearful female judge called it magic, while Bruno simply said, "Sensational!" The Welsh opera singer earned the first two tens for a total of 29 points.
Sherri Shepherd and Val Chmerkovskiy danced the rumba which she dedicated to her son, who battled severe health problems when he was born. Len appreciated the emotion she put into the dance, while Carrie Ann praised her lines, which were declared the best she's ever seen. The co-host of "The View" got 24 points.
Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy danced the jive to recount the time she fell and broke her back. Len exclaimed, "You have come into the competition. Well done!", while Carrie Ann added, "I thought you were so dynamic." The "Little House on the Prairie" star earned 24 points.
Dancing the rumba with Kym Johnson, Jaleel White celebrated his time portraying Stefan Urquelle on sitcom "Family Matters". Len said it was "a very competent performance," but noticed that "it was a little stiff in the arms." Bruno, meanwhile, described the dance as being cool and smooth. Jaleel earned 25 points.
Another 10 was given away that night after William Levy and Cheryl Burke danced a passionate salsa to recall his rough life in Cuba when he was a child. "You conquered the salsa," Len declared, with Carrie Ann admitting, "That was ridiculously hot." The telenovela actor got 28 points.
Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd were the last pair to perform, dancing the rumba dedicated to his best friend who died from cancer. Carrie Ann was "truly touched," while Len thought it was "top notch" although it was "a little hectic here and there." The judges gave him 26 points.
