Tom Hanks and will.i.am Get Entangled in Richard Branson's April Fools' Prank

Branson has earlier announced that the 'Larry Crowne' actor and the Black Eyed Peas member are among the first passengers to go on a journey into the Earth's core with Virgin Volcanic.

AceShowbiz - Words spread earlier that Tom Hanks and Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am will go on a journey the center of the Earth after Richard Branson announced the launching of Virgin Volcanic. Virgin Atlantic released a press release on March 31 that details Branson's latest plan for volcanic excursion, but it turned out to be no more than an elaborate April Fools' Day prank.

In the faux press release, it was revealed that Hanks and will.i.am are among the first passengers to board Virgin Volcanic explorer that is capable of transporting three passengers into the molten lava core of active volcanos. Joining them in the list are actor/producer Seth Green, documentary filmmaker Barbara Kopple and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The press release also noted that will.i.am also "plans to record the first volcanic soundtrack" for a documentary about the Virgin Volcanic project, which will be made by Kopple. It additionally included a quote by Hanks in which he shared his enthusiasm about the trip, "A window seat for a journey to the liquid core of our home planet would be a bargain at twice the price."

Also commenting on the excursion was Green, who is claimed to have put a $1 million deposit to reserve an early seat. "Ever since filming 'Austin Powers', I've had this obsession with underground layers," he gushed. "I've waited patiently for Sir Richard to make the dream of traveling to the Earth's core a reality."
