NBC is reportedly searching for new day-to-day showrunner for a ninth season of the sitcom, since Lieberstein will focus on the Dwight Schrute-centric spin-off.

AceShowbiz - "The Office" may be opening a recruitment behind the scenes. It has been reported that NBC is actively searching for a new showrunner to replace Paul Lieberstein, who has been serving as chief writer and executive producer on the long-running mockumentary.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the replacement is needed because Lieberstein will likely focus on "The Office" spin-off, which will revolve around Rainn Wilson's Dwight Schrute. Still, Lieberstein is expected to continue portraying Toby on the show, at least occasionally.
This is not the only change "The Office" will undergo in the coming season. James Spader has earlier announced that he won't return as Dunder Mifflin CEO, Robert California, in the possible season 9.
Mindy Kaling is also likely to depart the show if her comedy pilot on FOX is picked up to series. The project recently nabbed another "The Office" actor Ed Helms and "Saturday Night Live" veteran Bill Hader as guest stars. The former will play a new love interest for Kalling's Mia, while the latter will portray her ex-boyfriend Tom.
