Confirming that David DiGilio is currently still penning the script, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz assure that Joseph Kosinski will work on 'Tron 3' right after he finishes 'Oblivion'.

The sequel for "Tron Legacy" is apparently still in the works. While it has been quite a while since people last heard of the project, writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz confirmed that the follow-up movie is not dead and is currently in the writing stage.
"They are working on a sequel," Horowitz stated during an interview at the 2012 WonderCon in Anaheim, California. "Eddie and I aren't writing it because of the show ('Once Upon a Time'), but we've moved to being co-producers on it."
Kitsis elaborated furthermore that David DiGilio is "currently writing the script." Although director Joseph Kosinski is still busy filming "Horizons" (a.k.a "Oblivion"), Kitsis said, "We had a lot of meetings and conversations, and we've seen the first darft of the 'Tron' sequel."
"Sometimes movies don't happen as quickly as you want," he said of the long-gestating sequel project. "Joe was always going to shoot 'Oblivion' before that, and movies just work slower. Our goal is to get something going soon."
Plot details of the untitled Tron Legacy sequel are still sealed. When asked whether Jeff Bridges' character is dead or might return to "Tron 3", Horowitz responded, "I would say the definition of life and death in the digital realm..." Kitsis finished the line as saying, "Will be explored in the sequel!"
"Tron Legacy" was released in 2010 to mixed reviews and a so-so box office result. Although it did not reach Walt Disney Pictures' high expectations for a 3D film similar to the success of "Avatar", the Garrett Hedlund-starring film grossed $172 million in North America. It marked the 12th highest-grossing movie of 2012 and the largest of December 2010.
