20th Century Fox has secured the original 'Chronicle' scribe for the sequel, though it is still unclear if Josh Trank would return to tackle the directorial duty once again.

AceShowbiz - With a massive success achieved by "Chronicle" in this first quarter of 2012, 20th Century Fox aims to double the victory by developing a sequel to the found-footage thriller. Though the film has just been released earlier in February, the studio already moves forward with a follow-up movie that will bring back the original writer.
Deadline broke the news screenwriter Max Landis is set to return to provide the screenplay for the sequel. Details of the plot, however, are still kept under tight wraps. It is also still unclear if Josh Trank will return to his directing seat since Trank himself is currently in talks to helm a much-talked-about standalone movie for Spider-Man's nemesis, Venom.
"Chronicle", which stars Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell and Michael B Jordan, follows three teens who posses superpowers after discovering a mysterious substance in the woods. Despite the fact that it only cost a modest $12 million to produce, the film successfully received positive reviews from critics and bagged $105 million worldwide in just 33 days after it was released on February 3.
Aside from "Chronicle", Landis wrote and directed a short called "The Death and Return of Superman" in 2011. As for his partner, Trank, in addition to being considered to direct "Venom (2013)", the young filmmaker has reportedly become the frontrunner to helm an untitled New Fantastic Four project for Fox.
