Ridley Scott Reveals Guy Pearce's 'Prometheus' Role That Connects With 'Alien'
Movie

Scott says that Pearce will play the Prometheus owner named Peter Weyland, who is the only direct linkage to the world in the 1979 space thriller film.

AceShowbiz - Director Ridley Scott has shared a few tidbits on Guy Pearce's role in "Prometheus". Despite the fact that the filmmaker always insists that the upcoming space thriller is not related to "Alien", he admitted that Pearce's character is a direct connection to the 1979 phenomenal movie.

In an interview with Hungarian's FilmSite, the English filmmaker explained the background of Pearce's role in the upcoming film. He said, as translated by Alien Prequel News, "When the first 'Alien' movie and 'Blade Runner' were made, I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies."

"This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in 'Blade Runner' and Weyland-Yutani in 'Alien'. They sent the Nostromo spaceship," Scott continued before adding, "The 'Prometheus' is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce."

The 74-year-old director then claimed that Pearce's Weyland is "the connection between the two films, and nothing more." He went on stating, "Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well."

"Prometheus" was initally designed as a prequel to "Alien". However, the plot evolved to a more stand-alone mythology. In an interview with Filmophilia back in December, Scott insisted that he will not relate his anticipated movie to the 1979 thriller "at all."

"I mean, you could actually say, and there's a quote I did, a pretty good quote: By the end of the third act you start to realize there's a DNA of the very first alien, but none of the subsequent aliens," he insisted. "To tell you what that is is a pity, and I'm not going to tell you, because it's actually good, pretty organic to the process and to the original. But we go back, we don't go forward."

The much awaited thriller will be released in the U.S. on June 8. Joining Pearce in the cast ensemble are the likes of Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Fassbender, Ben Foster, Charlize Theron and Idris Elba.
