The black-and-white movie snatched four prizes at the Saturday, February 25 event, going home with the coveted Best Picture nod among others.

AceShowbiz - The possibility that "The Artist" could go home with an Oscar is getting bigger as the silent movie snatched Best Picture at the Indie Sprit Awards on Saturday, February 25. Hosted by Seth Rogen, the awards event is one of the best indications of who will win at the 84th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 26.
In tow with the Best Picture prize, "The Artist" won three others such as Best Director for Michel Hazanavicius, Best Lead Actor for Jean Dujardin and Best Cinematography for Guillaume Schiffman. "The Artist" receives nominations in the same four categories at the upcoming Oscars in addition to six others.
Back to Indie Spirit Awards, Michelle Williams won the Best Actress nod for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in "My Week with Marilyn". She said in her acceptance speech, "I wore my own clothes back then, which were not very good, and I cut my own hair, which also was not very good. I still remember the feeling that in this room, unlike others, that that was OK. Possibly even preferred. And what I thought then and I still feel now is that it's because this room was a room full of misfits, outcasts, loners, dreamers, mumblers, delinquents, dropouts. Just like me."
Meanwhile, Christopher Plummer took home Supporting Actor prize for his role in "Beginners". "It's taken me the longest time to realize the Spirit Awards have nothing to do with booze," Plummer joked. Young star Shailene Woodley won the Supporting Actress nod for "The Descendants" which also claimed Best Screenplay.
