It has been announced that the 23rd 007 movie will be released in IMAX theaters both domestically and internationally as a part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of the franchise.

AceShowbiz - "Skyfall" is set to be the first James Bond movie ever to be released in IMAX theaters. On Thursday, February 23, IMAX Corporation, EON Production, MGM Studios and Sony Pictures announced that the 23rd 007 film will receive an IMAX treatment simultaneously with the film's international release on October 26 and domestic release on November 9.

Sony Pictures president of worldwide marketing and distribution, Rory Bruer, promised that the highly anticipated spy film will look better in IMAX screen. He gushed, " 'Skyfall' will be the cool, must-see event release of the fall, and releasing the film in IMAX only reinforces that."

MGM's Gary Barber and Roger Burnbaum added that the plan to release "Skyfall" in the IMAX theaters was part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of the franchise. They said in a joint statement, "It is fitting that with 'Skyfall' marking the 50th Anniversary of the James Bond franchise, we celebrate in epic style and what could be more larger-than-life than IMAX joining the festivities."

Meanwhile, IMAX Filmed Entertainment president Greg Foster chimed in, "It is an honor and privilege to be a part of this legendary franchise, whose iconic characters and electrifying action will not only be amplified in the IMAX format."

"We are excited to rejoin forces with our friends at Sony Pictures Entertainment and MGM and so pleased to work with Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Sam Mendes to bring their vision to IMAX and Bond fans around the world," Foster continued.

"Skyfall" will bring back Daniel Craig as the iconic flamboyant British agent, and Judi Dench as his superior M. In the upcoming movie, Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost. The film also stars franchise newcomers Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem and Naomie Harris. Providing the screenplay are Neal Purvis along with Robert Wade and John Logan.
