Julien's Auctions will display the black velvet gown that she wore in the 1992 movie in an exhibition kicked off March 19.

AceShowbiz - Items associated to Whitney Houston are up for auction just a day after the singer was laid to rest in New Jersey. Among the things available to purchase are the famous black velvet dress and earrings that she wore in her acting breakthrough movie "The Bodyguard".

The auction will be held through Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills on March 31 and April 1. The dress is valued at $1,000 while a brown satin waistcoat she wore in the film is priced at $400 and the faux-pearl earrings at $600.

"It's a celebration of her life," Darren Julien told The Associated Press. "If you hide these things in fear that you're going to offend someone - her life is to be celebrated. These items are historic now that she passed. They become a part of history. They should be in museums. She's lived a life and had a career that nobody else has ever had."

Julien added that collectibles become available when the previous owners die. "It proves a point that these items, they're an investment," Julien said. "You buy items just like a stock. Buy at the right time and sell at the right time, and they just increase in value." However, Houston's family reportedly has screened the hotel room where she died to prevent anyone from selling the items and profit from her death.

A free exhibition for the "Hollywood Legends" items will be open to the public starting March 19. Also sold are Charlie Chaplin's cane, Clark Gable's jacket from "Gone With the Wind" and Charlton Heston's staff from "The Ten Commandments".
