The American activist and contributor for ABC News married fiance Matthew Gilmour in a private ceremony attended by only close friends and family.

AceShowbiz - Elizabeth Smart, who became the subject of media coverage, a book and a TV movie for her 2002 kidnapping, has tied the knot to Matthew Gilmour. It was a private ceremony held at the Laie Hawaii Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a small group of friends and family members in attendance.
"Yes, Elizabeth did get married today and we are all thrilled," Smart's father, Ed, said on Saturday, February 18. Her spokesman added to KSL, "Elizabeth's desire was for what most women want - to celebrate her nuptials in a private wedding with family and close friends."
The ceremony was followed by an also private reception. "The bride and groom were beaming as they left the LDS Temple," Thomas said.
Smart and Gilmour met while she was doing Mormon missionary work in Paris. They got engaged last month with a plan to get married in summer, but things changed. "She decided, about a week ago, the best way to avoid significant distraction was to change her wedding plans and to get married in an unscheduled ceremony outside of Utah," Thomas explained.
The newlywed will go on a honeymoon at an undisclosed location.
