The upcoming single is confirmed to be released as a lead single from Mayer's next studio installment 'Born and Raised'.

AceShowbiz - John Mayer is back from his brief hiatus after undergoing a throat surgery late last year. The pop/rock singer is gearing up to release his brand new single "Shadow Days". To tide fans over the upcoming release, he has dropped a one-minute snippet of the song.
"Well I ain't no troublemaker/ And I never meant her harm," Mayer croons over the acoustic guitar tune, insisting he's no bad boy. "I'm a good man, with a good heart/ Had a tough time, got a rough start." Before the music fades, he repeats the line, "My shadow days are over."
"Here's a clip of the first single off 'Born and Raised'," he wrote on his official Tumblr page. "I'm excited to share the first bit of sound from the album... Been looking forward to a post like this since October 14, 2010, the first day I started writing this group of songs."
Details about Mayer's new album remain scarce. Back in October 2010, a friend of his told PopEater that he's been thinking "some witty way" to answer Taylor Swift, who was widely believed to have slammed him in her song "Dear John" over their brief fling.
"Writing a response to 'Dear John' called 'Dear Taylor' would be too obvious, so expect something much bigger than that," the insider said back then. "Sure Taylor has a right to say whatever she wants but she needs to know she is playing with fire."
Mayer himself is also known for going public with details of his past romances. The ex-boyfriend of Jennifer Aniston once upset Jessica Simpson when giving explicit details about their relationship in a Playboy interview.
