Explaining the term 'The Untold Story' used in the marketing campaign of the superhero movie, Webb says that he wants people to know that 'this isn't a remake of Sam Raimi's movie.'

AceShowbiz - Director Marc Webb has recently shared multiple tidbits from his latest directorial film "The Amazing Spider-Man". In an interview with Comic-Con Annual magazine, the filmmaker explained the meaning behind the term "The Untold Story" used in the marketing campaign of the anticipated Marvel superhero film.
"That's part of the untold story certainly," he said. "It's really important for us to be able to communicate that this isn't a remake of Sam Raimi's movie. There's a new territory, there's a new villain, it's a different Peter Parker."
On why he chose Gwen Stacy instead of Mary Jane as Parker's leading lady, Webb opened up, "We've seen Mary Jane. I also think that Gwen Stacy is a young scientifically minded woman who's super smart, maybe even a little bit smarter than Peter at times."
"I like that dynamic, that there was a rivalry between the two of them in some way," he added. "And I think Emma [Stone] and Andrew [Garfield]'s chemistry really describes that in a fun, very intimate way."
Explaining the darker tone of the upcoming "Spider-Man" movie, Webb said that it will still involve some humors but he aims to keep it realistic. "There's this trickster quality we were very keen on exploring, with that humor and that fun and that wisecracking stuff. We wanted to keep that alive, but we wanted it to be realistic."
"We wanted that humor to come from a real place," he added. "My aim was to create a world where you could feel all those emotions. There are certainly darker, more intense feelings in this movie. There is betrayal, there is tragedy, but there's also humor and romance. So it's a very complex bouquet of emotions, but what you have to tread on is what feels authentic and what feels real, and you have to earn those different emotions."
As for the supervillain, Dr. Curt Connors a.k.a The Lizard, Webb explained about his bittersweet relationship with Parker in the movie. "He's fantastic. He brings a surly sophistication. Curt Connors is a friend of Peter Parker. He is an ally who evolves into an adversary, but Peter always cares deeply for Dr. Connors," said the director.
"Rhys [Ifans] has tow sides to his [The Lizard] personality. He has a wonderful kindness and warmth, and he has this surly rock 'n' roll part of his personality and you really sense both of those in this movie," Webb continued on.
"The Amazing Spider-Man" centers on Peter Parker. Like most teenagers his age, he is trying to figure out who he is and how he to be the person he is today. In his journey to put the pieces of his past together, he uncovers a secret that his father held. The secret will ultimately shape his destiny as Spider-Man.
Andrew Garfield plays the titular superhero, while his real life girlfriend Emma Stone stars as his leading lady Gwen Stacy. Rhys Ifans, Sally Field, Martin Sheen and Denis Leary also make up the cast ensemble for the movie that will hit the U.S. theaters on July 3.
