Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said the 75-year-old died from a self-inflicted gun wound but police are looking deeper into the situation.

AceShowbiz - Don Cornelius, the man who famously created television dance series "Soul Train", died in the hand of a gun. The 75-year-old committed suicide in his Sherman Oaks, CA home and his body was found by the cops on Wednesday, February 1 morning at around 4 A.M. PT.

Cornelius was taken to Cedars-Sinai hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:56 A.M. from "an apparent suicide with a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told The Hollywood Reporter.

Cornelius' family has been notified by the officials who are still investigating the death. Shawn Holley, Cornelius' lawyer and good friend, told TMZ, "This is devastating news. Don was a kind, funny and brilliant man. Even though his many health battles had left him frail, he remained vibrant, courtly and always sharp as a tack."

Despite his success, Cornelius has had tumultuous life. Beside his arrest in 2008 for beating up his wife and his divorce proceedings a year later, Cornelius was plagued with health issues, particularly a stroke that required him to have brain surgery.
