Thanking fans for making 'Born to Die' number one in more than 10 countries, the 'Video Games' singer tweets, 'Your sweet words have softened the effect of even the harshest reviews.'

AceShowbiz - Lana Del Rey's second album debuted high on iTunes charts although it received poor reviews. Soon after "Born to Die" was released worldwide on January 31, its deluxe version hits no. 1 on the charts while the standard version is currently ranked the third.
The 25-year-old New Yorker, who was recently criticized for her "Saturday Night Live" performance, has credited her fans for making the LP sit on the top of the charts. "Thank you for making the record #1 in 11 countries," so she wrote on her Twitter. "Your sweet words have softened the effect of even the harshest reviews. I adore you."
Although the lyrics of Del Rey's songs in "Born to Die" were praised by Rolling Stone reviewer Rob Sheffield, her vocal was slammed for being "pinched and prim." "Her strength is the lyrics, which have the pop-trash perversity that the music lacks," the review read.
Another critic, meanwhile, thought that "the lack of vocal agility" is not the central failure of the album. "It's that her music doesn't communicate actual feeling...her moody, melancholic music carries only the aura of emotion," a Washington Post reviewer noted the negative point of the studio album.
