President Barack Obama has got an invitation to sing on "American Idol". The Commander-in-chief was asked to make a performance on the talent show after executive producer Nigel Lythgoe watched his rendition of Al Green's song, and was impressed with it.

On Twitter, Lythgoe revealed his wish to watch Obama making a duet with Al Green. He posted, "@BarackObama we loved your vocal performance so much we'd love to invite you on to #AmericanIdol this Season for a duet with Al Green."

Obama did a short rendition of Green's "Let's Stay Together" during a recent fundraiser at the Apollo Theater in New York City. A week later when the song's finale figure was released by Nielsen SoundScan, there's a major boost in its digital download.

The song was downloaded for 16,000 times in the week ending January 22 (up 490|percent| from previous week). It becomes the best sales week for the song since SoundScan began tracking downloads in 2003.
