In addition to tackling the directorial duty, the 'A-Team' filmmaker is set to serve as the screenwriter for the upcoming action film about a man who goes vigilante after his family are slaughtered.

AceShowbiz - Following the satisfying box office result of his latest directorial film, "The Grey", filmmaker Joe Carnahan has secured another potential big movie project on his plate. The 42-year-old director has been locked to helm a remake of 1974's iconic action movie, "Death Wish".
L.A. Times' 24 Frames reported that Carnahan will not only direct the remake film project, but he will also serve as the screenwriter. The gig is being developed at MGM and Paramount Pictures. Before Carnahan signed on, Sylvester Stallone originally eyed to helm the remake, but he subsequently left the project since it got stuck in development around five years ago.
The original "Death Wish" starred Charles Bronson as Paul Kersey. The lead character was a liberal architect who went vigilante after his wife and daughter were brutally attacked. He then undertook a one-man mission to kill thugs on the streets of New York.
At that time, the film became a phenomenon and inspired the raise of modern action pic. Despite its big success, the movie received provoking criticism for showing intense violence. The original film has already gotten four sequels over the course of the next two decades since it was released in 1974.
As for Carnahan, the fimmaker has previously directed and wrote another successful reboot film, "The A-Team", which opened in the U.S. theaters last 2010. He was originally tapped to direct an upcoming drama called "Umbra" for Relativity Media, but he had decided to exit the project.
