Last year's winner of Director of the Year for feature film, Tom Hooper, read out Michel Hazanavicius' name as this year's winner.

AceShowbiz - The 64th annual Directors Guild of America Awards honored Michel Hazanavicius as Director of the Year for his work in "The Artist". The Saturday, January 28 event at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland saw the silent movie once again making a triumph at a Guild event, throwing it on a smoother road to the upcoming Oscars.

There have been only six instances in the history of DGA Awards that the guild's feature film winner did not win at the Oscars. Last year, "The King's Speech" went home with Oscar's Best Picture after director Tom Hooper won at the DGA Awards. Hooper personally handed his title to Hazanavicius this year.

"This is very moving and touching for me," Hazanavicius said in his acceptance speech. The French filmmaker won over Woody Allen of "Midnight in Paris", David Fincher of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011)", Alexander Payne of "The Descendants" and Martin Scorsese of "Hugo".

In the TV field, Patty Jenkins earned the dramatic award for directing the pilot of AMC's "The Killing". John Cassar claimed movie-of-the-week/miniseries honor for Reelz Channel's "The Kennedys" while Robert B. Weide took the comedic prize for the "Palestinian Chicken" episode of HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm".
