AceShowbiz - Al Green has enjoyed a huge boost in the sales of his classic hit "Let's Stay Together", thanks to President Barack Obama. According to data from Nielsen SoundScan, the 1971 single gains 490|percent| increase in the digital download of this week.
The song, which was covered by Obama at the Apollo Theater in New York City, has been downloaded for 16,000 times in the week ending January 22. It becomes the best sales week for the song since SoundScan began tracking downloads in 2003.
Obama sang the song when visiting a fund-raising event in the NYC by crooning the lyrics of "I...I'm so in love with you". After his brief rendition, he jokingly said, "Don't worry Rev, I cannot sing like you, but I just wanted to show my appreciation."
Green was quick to give his thumbs-up to the Commander-in-chief. "I was thrilled that the President even mentioned my name," he gushed. "And if the President can get the economy going again and get everything going that he wants to, then we'll all be together."
In addition to being sung by Obama, "Let's Stay Together" has also been covered by Seal this week. The soul/R&B singer, who's grabbing headlines with his split from Heidi Klum, performed the song when visiting "The Ellen DeGeneres Show".
