Making its way to be the highest-grossing film in the franchise, 'The Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn Part I' has already bagged $701 million globally since being released in November 2011.

AceShowbiz - "The Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn Part I" continues to score big since it was released last November 18. The vampire movie has successfully grossed $701 million worldwide on Sunday, January 22, and is on its way to surpass the worldwide box office gross of 2009's "The Twilight Saga's New Moon", which bagged $709.8 million.

The achievement marks Lionsgate Films and Summit Entertainment's first milestone since announcing their merger last Friday, January 13. Lionsgate's co-chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger said in a joint statement, "The milestone is important on several fronts and illustrates the vitality of the franchise on a global scale even after four films."

"Stephenie Meyer's story and characters were brought to the screen this time via the talented hands of Bill Condon along with the cast and crew that has been with the film franchise since its inception," he added. "We are very proud of the success the franchise has experienced and anticipate the saga's conclusion this November."

"Breaking Dawn I" has yet to open in several other big countries, including Japan and China. Domestically, the movie has collected a total cume of $280.3 million. It is still behind "The Twilight Saga's Eclipse", which earned $300.5 million, and "New Moon", which garnered $296.6 million, though.

Its follow-up film, "The Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn Part II", is set to be released in the U.S. theaters on November 16. The story takes place after the birth of Bella and Edward's daughter Renesmee. The couple must now face a perilous chain of events that pits the Cullens and their allies against the Volturi, which is the fearsome council of vampire leaders.

Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner will return to play fan favorites Bella, Edward and Jacob respectively. They are joined by Ashley Greene, Peter Facinelli, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone, Elizabeth Reaser and Dakota Fanning among others.
