David Leathers Jr., who won over the champ of 'Idol season 10 in a local competition, and Gabi Carrubba, who wanted to audition all her life, are some of those who get the Golden Tickets.

AceShowbiz - The 11th season of "American Idol" has officially been kicked off with the audition in Savannah. Making it one of the best starts they've ever had on the show like Ryan Seacrest said, David Leathers Jr. blew the judges away in the January 18 episode with his rendition of "Remember the Rain".

The judges thought that the self-proclaimed lady's man, who once beat last season's winner Scotty McCreery in a local competition back in 2009, looked like a young Michael Jackson. Thus, they asked him to do a number from the late King of Pop. After the 17-year-old North Carolina native belted out "Never Can Say Goodbye", all three judges said "yes" to him.

Another impressive talent was Gabi Carrubba, who was very excited to join the audition. She hugged producer Nigel Lythgoe before delivering a smooth cover of Maroon 5's "Sunday Morning". "One of those natural voices," Jennifer Lopez praised her and she got the Golden Ticket.

Amy Brumfield, who is unemployed and lives in a tent in the woods, proved that she is good at singing. The 24-year-old and the likes of Stephanie Renae, Schyler Dixon and her brother Colton, Lauren Mink as well as Phillip Phillips were some others who made it to Hollywood.

In the bad part, there's Joshua Chavis who sounded like screaming instead of singing during the audition. Mawuena Kodjo promised to "blow you away", but after he sang "I Won't Let Go", Steven Tyler told him, "You got the confidence, but you ain't got the song."

Jessica Whitely was another contestant with "awful" singing talent. "Do people say that you can sing?" was Randy Jackson's comment to the 19-year-old girl. As the judges sent her home, she insisted that she's not giving up just yet and telling them, "I'll see you in Texas."
