AceShowbiz - One more alumnus of "The X Factor (US)" gets a record deal. On the same day it was announced that third-placer Chris Rene was signed to Epic Records, MTV News said that 15-year-old rapper Astro is joining Rene and the first season's winner Melanie Amaro in L.A. Reid's label.
The deal will be announced formally on "RapFix Live". Astro tweeted, "NYC #ASTROnauts pick up the Daily News today. Page 11. Great news for #TeamASTRO! Everyone else can tune in to @MTVRapFix at 4pm on MTV.com (sic)"
There was a rumor that Jay-Z took an interest on Astro after he got eliminated. Reid denied the allegation, saying, "No, no, no no! Nobody is going to sign with anyone except Simon [Cowell] and me! All the contestants are in great hands." Talking about Astro whom he mentored during the competition, Reid said in December, "Astro's future is solid. He is already recording."
