Ricky Gervais Thinks Jodie Foster's Kids Have Good Sense of Humor Over 'Beaver' Joke

When asked about the remarks he made about Foster's sexual orientation at the 2012 Golden Globes, the awards show's host says he doesn't think it was offensive.

AceShowbiz - Ricky Gervais was a bit tamer when hosting the 2012 Golden Globes if compared to last year, but he still managed to grab headlines with his jab at Jodie Foster's sexual orientation. When informed that Foster's sons were present at the awards show, the 50-year-old comedian said he doesn't believe his joke was out of line.

Asked about his remarks that arguably outed the director/star of "The Beaver", the "Life's Too Short" star told TMZ, "I don't think anyone thought it was offensive, did they?" Upon learning that the actress' children were there to hear the joke, he said that he believes she brought up 13-year-old Charlie and 10-year-old Kit to have "good sense of humor".

Gervais made a joke out of Foster's sexual orientation in his opening monologue after reading out a list of topics he was banned from mentioning while hosting the Sunday, January 15 show. "The Hollywood Foreign Press have warned me that if I insult you or cause any controversy, they would invite me back next year," he began.

Having said he was not allowed to libel anyone among other things, the comedian noted, "And I must not mention Mel Gibson this year. Not his private life, his politics, his recent films or especially not Jodie Foster's Beaver. I haven't seen it myself. I've spoken to a lot of guys - they haven't seen it either but that doesn't mean it's not good."

Foster herself didn't seem to mind the crude remarks and took it with good spirits. In fact, the 49-year-old actress could be seen clapping and making a thumbs-up sign when Gervais delivered his jokes.
