Winslet and Grammer are Best Actress in a Mini-Series and Best Drama Actor respectively, with 'Downton Abbey', 'Homeland' and 'Enlightened' also already taking an award each.

AceShowbiz - The 69th Golden Globe Awards has just kicked off on January 15 night, but Kate Winslet has already had a reason to be joyous this night. The title character depicter on "Mildred Pierce" snatched an award for Best Actress in a Mini-Series or Made-for-TV Movie through her role on the HBO show.

Kelsey Grammer was another star shining early at the prestigious event, grabbing Best Actor in a TV Drama for his portrayal of Chicago Mayor Tom Kane on "Boss". The role marked his transition from comedy to drama, but the 56-year-old recently claimed, "It's pretty much the same thing."

Before Winslet and Grammer claimed their victories, Laura Dern of "Enlightened" had stepped on the stage to take her Best Actress in a TV Musical or Comedy kudo. "Downton Abbey", which was nominated in four categories, grabbed Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture kudo, beating out its strongest competitor "Mildred Pierce".

Additionally, "Homeland" claimed the coveted Best TV Drama gong, edging out other acclaimed series such as "Boardwalk Empire" and "Game of Thrones".

More winners, both in TV and movie, are going to be announced at the ongoing Golden Globe Awards. Ricky Gervais is hosting the show, which is broadcast live on NBC from the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.
