AceShowbiz - After news broke out that Patrice O'Neal has died due to complications of a stroke, words of condolences have been pouring in from the entertainment world. Among those offering heartfelt tribute for the loss was Charlie Sheen, the troubled actor whom the late comedian roasted on Comedy Central special last September.
"The entertainment world as well as the world at large lost a brilliant man today," Charlie wrote on his WhoSay page. "Patrice had that rare 'light' around him and inside of him. I only knew him for the few days leading up to the Roast. Yet I will forever be inspired by his nobility, his grace and his epic talent. My tears today are for the tremendous loss to his true friends and loving family."
When it was reported that Patrice suffered a stroke back in October, Charlie was also among those who sent support for the 41-year-old comedian. In a statement released via TMZ, the former star of "Two and a Half Men" described him as "a gentle giant, a brilliant comedian, and a noble dude." He added, "Wishing him nothing but recovery, healing and laughter."
Patrice passed away on Tuesday, November 29. In a statement to E! News, his manager Jonathan Brandstein detailed, "It is with terrible sadness we must report that Patrice O'Neal has passed away this morning at 7:00 A.M. due to the complications of the stroke he suffered on October 19."
"Many of us have lost a close and loved friend; all of us have lost a true comic genius. His mother, who was also his best friend, was at his side. The family wishes to thank all of the fans and friends who have expressed an outpouring of love and support for Patrice these past weeks. We ask that you please respect the family's request for privacy at this difficult time."
Other celebrities paying tribute to the late comedian included Ricky Gervais, Sarah Silverman and Amy Schumer. Ricky wrote on his Twitter, "One of my favorite stand up comedians. So sad. RIP," Sarah tweeted, "RIP Patrice O'Neal. You made us laugh til we cried," and Amy noted, "Brilliant, unafraid, unapologetic. You inspired me and kept us all honest #RIPPatrice."
Chris Jericho also took to Twitter to express sadness over the loss. "Sad to hear about Patrice O'Neal...I met him when he was a WWE writer and worked w him many times," so he wrote. "Sweet guy and very funny! God bless u man." Kevin Smith also tweeted, "I shared some air & some air time with the man on O&A & he was always funny & thoughtful. Patrice - He WILL be missed."
