The former 'Live!' host is contemplating 'a family competition, which is something new in our business.'

AceShowbiz - Regis Philbin did mean it when he said he did not retire despite quitting "Live with Regis and Kelly". Less than two weeks after ending his 28-year gig on the ABC morning show, the 80-year-old reveals his plans to bring forward a new talent show for primetime.

"We're contemplating a show that is sort of a talent show, but it involves the whole family," he tells New York Post's Page Six about the project before adding, "a family competition, which is something new in our business. It's going to be on prime time when it happens."

Philbin additionally reveals he has been offered other projects by "Gangland" producer Michael Manshel. He further comments on his other potential project, "[An] entertainment type of show would appeal to me. In our business you don't want to say variety because it's frowned upon now, but something with people who are performing."

Since Philbin left "Live!", a number of guest hosts have been tapped to accompany Kelly Ripa on the show which is now called "Live! with Kelly". Neil Patrick Harris has started taking the seat next to Ripa on November 28 and will stay on the show until December 2.

Praising the "How I Met Your Mother" actor as his temporary replacement, Philbin said, "Neil Patrick Harris always does a great job." He, however, thinks that the star of "The Smurfs" will not be a permanent host.

"They've got to find someone who has the time right now to do that," Philbin reasoned. "Neil was great and he will probably pinch hit, I'm sure. They have to keep looking around until they find someone that really appeals to Kelly... and then they'll go for it."
