AceShowbiz - FOX did not deny when "The X Factor (US)" was caught lip syncing. Instead, the network defended such move by saying that other competition shows do the same thing for ensemble performances.
"For the group ensemble performance, the vocals are pre-recorded to allow acts to concentrate on preparing for their own live competitive performances on Wednesdays," a show representative said in a statement. "This is also no different to what other competition shows do for ensemble performances."
Protests came from viewers after contestant Leroy Bell was seen not raising his mic and not opening his mouth but his voice was heard on Thursday, November 3's result show. He was performing as a part of an opening medley, not in competition.
After the incident made headlines, some readers said that a similar thing happened when Stereo Hogzz appeared to be performing without having microphones near their lips at one point during a survival performance. However, FOX has made it clear that lip syncing is only applied to group performances. "All competitive songs, including survival songs, are performed live to a backing track," the show's spokesperson said.
