Four outperforming other popular TV shows, "The X Factor (US)" is given a second season order. "I am absolutely thrilled with the news," judge Simon Cowell said in the press release. "I have loved making the show and I want to thank FOX, our sponsors and most importantly, the fans for supporting THE X FACTOR."

Cowell had first expected it to average 20 million viewers, but the premiere episode only attracted 12.5 million viewers, posting a 4.4 rating in 18-49 demo. However, FOX's reality chief Mike Darnell said, "We lived with the reality that there is an enormous interest in every show during premiere week, and honestly, we're just relieved this morning. Other than crazy expectations, this is a very good premiere."

In its first season, the singing talent show has performed better than "Dancing with the Stars", "Survivor", "The Biggest Loser" and others. It averages more than 13 million viewers and earned No. 1 among Adults 18-49 on Thursday nights for the first time in the network's history.

"THE X FACTOR is a monumental success," said Darnell. "It's won every night it's been on the air, the talent is phenomenal, the live shows are spectacular and picking it up is a complete no-brainer. Simon and his team have done an incredible job with the show, and I'm absolutely thrilled to bring back THE X FACTOR for another fantastic season."
