De Niro and Travolta will play a military veteran and a European tourist who form an unlikely friendship before they end up going toe-to-toe at the grueling Appalachian mountain.

AceShowbiz - Robert De Niro and John Travolta are set to team up for an upcoming action film "Killing Season". De Niro is replacing Nicolas Cage who was previously tapped to star opposite Travolta in the movie project, which was formerly known as "Shrapnel".

On Saturday, October 29, Millenium Films has announced that De Niro and Travolta will kick off the production of the movie on January 16, 2012. "Ghost Rider" helmer Steven Johnson is set to serve behind the lens, while "Snow White and the Huntsman" scribe Evan Daugherty will pen the script.

"Killing Season" follows an American military veteran (De Niro) who lives in a remote cabin in the woods. He then strikes up an unlikely friendship with a European tourist (Travolta) who suddenly comes to visit him. However, everything changes as the veteran finds out that the tourist is a Serbian soldier bent on revenge. The two then form a one-on-one war at the grueling Appalachian mountain.

Millenium will distribute the film in consultation with Corsan. Of the project, Corsan CEO Paul Breuls said, "I've loved this project from the moment I read Evan Daugherty's script. It's thrilling, imaginative, unexpected and dominated by two extraordinary characters on a collision course." He added, "I'm very pleased this film is moving into production and to be partnered with Avi Lerner [Millenium topper] and his team at Millenium."

Lerner went on adding, "We're excited to be co-financing and co-producing this film with Corsan, and to be working again with Robert De Niro and John Travolta." He said, "We've never seen these two great actors on screen together before, and we're excited to see what comes of the combination."
