Warner Bros. Pictures picks the 'Company Men' actor to direct the film project, which was previously reported to be helmed by 'Harry Potter' filmmaker David Yates.

AceShowbiz - Ben Affleck is close to land another high profile movie project. Deadline reported that the actor-turned-director has been chosen by Warner Bros. Pictures to direct the big screen adaptation of Stephen King's post-apocalyptic mammoth novel, "The Stand".
A few months ago, it was reported that "Harry Potter" director David Yates and scribe Steve Kloves will reunite to adapt King's 1000-page book in possibly over three films. After the news of Affleck's involvement emerged, however, it is unclear why Yates exited the project and whether Kloves is still in.
Set in a time after a virus wipes out most of American population, "The Stand" is a story about good vs. evil. It focuses on a group of survivors fighting the Antichrist-like Randall Flagg, and features dozens of characters and overlapping storylines running over many years.
Affleck has directed two solid movies, "Gone Baby Gone" in 2007 and "The Town" in 2010. His latest directorial work was "Argo", an upcoming drama about Iranian hostage. Last year, he was named Warner's top choice for "Man of Steel" before he turned it down.
