Teaming up with her wife Susan and Warner Bros. Pictures, the 'Sherlock Holmes' actor is set make the new detective film, which is adapted from Erle Stanley Gardner's best-selling novel.

AceShowbiz - Robert Downey Jr. is set to work on another detective movie after "Sherlock Holmes". Variety reported that Downey Jr. and his wife Susan have joined forces with Warner Bros. Pictures to develop a feature film, which is adapted from Erle Stanley Gardner's famous detective fiction novel, "Perry Mason".

Downey Jr. and his wife will serve as the producers along with Robert Cort. Aside from producing it, the actor is also eyeing the project as a potential starring vehicle for him. Meanwhile, the producers are still looking for a suitable scribe to pen the script, which is based on an original story conceived by the "Iron Man" actor himself and David Gambino.

The "Perry Mason" novel tells the story of the irrepressible defense lawyer who lives in the rough-and-tumble world of early 1930s Los Angeles. The story also involves other characters like Mason's secretary Della Street, his longtime courtroom nemesis Hamilton Burger, and a private investigator named Paul Drake.

In the near future, Downey Jr. will be seen reprising his role as the quirky-mannered detective from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novel in "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows", which will hit U.S. theaters on December 16. He is currently busy filming "The Avengers", in which he reprises his role as Iron Man.
