Joe Jonas' 'Just In Love' Video Producer Denies Copycat Claim

September 29, 2011 (6:56 am) GMT
Dismissing the plagiarism accusation, Kim Dellara from HSI Productions says the love stories featured in both 'Just in Love' music video and 'For Lovers Only' indie movie are universal.

Amidst rumors suggesting that ' "Just In Love" music video is a rip-off of The Polish Brothers' indie movie "For Lovers Only", Kim Dellara from HSI Productions which handled production for the music video spoke up. In her statement, she insisted there is no copycat because the situations visualized in both works are "universal in love stories of this genre."

"We've received considerable interest in the music video for Joe Jonas' single, 'Just in Love,' and it is apparently being compared to a film called 'For Lovers Only'," she stated. "Until yesterday we had never heard of the independent film, but judging from the trailer online it is clear both the video and the film are set in Paris and shared inspiration from French 60s New Wave cinema."

Kim additionally reasoned that the "Just in Love" video is consistent with the past work done by director Jaci Judelson. "[He] is known for a unique and large body of work that pre-dates this film by several years and this video is consistent with the style and content of her previous work," she explained. "The concept for 'Just in Love' was inspired and driven by the lyrics of the song and by its director having lived in Paris for nearly 20 years."

The Polish Brothers, however, have already dismissed the idea that both videos were simply inspired by the French New Wave even before HSI Productions issued their statement. Mark Polish told TheWrap, "The French New Wave is a style, not the content. In their video, the content is a man and a woman meeting on the stairs, taking a boat ride, running through Paris, sitting in a bathtub ... And so much of that is straight from our movie."
