John Hodgman NOT Starring in 'Ghostbusters 3'
Movie

After causing a frenzy with his admission that he might play Egon's son in the latest 'Ghostbusters' film, Hodgman finally clarifies that the statement was just meant to be a joke.

AceShowbiz - John Hodgman has clarified that he will not star in "Ghostbusters 3". Taking to his Twitter to put the brake on the circulating speculations, the 40-year-old columnist/comedian wrote, "ANSWER THREE: I AM NOT APPEARING IN GHOSTBUSTERS 3. Nor is @scharpling. That was a radio #fakecastingnews joke."

Rumors that Hodgman might appear in the latest "Ghostbusters" movie emerged after the actor presented a "hypothetical" scenario during an interview on WFMU's "The Best Show". "If you were hypothetically offered a role in 'Ghostbusters 3'... would you take the role?" he asked as quoted by io9.

"Let's say youre [playing] sort of the dissolute son of Egon, the Harold Ramis' character, and you're kind of like John Candy in 'Splash', you're kind of a mess," he continued. "But it turns out you're a natural ghost-whisperer, a natural psychic."

"But here's the thing, Bill Murray's not going to be in this movie, and probably not happy that you are. But you get to be in a major role, in a major movie and one of the greatest franchise of all time. Would you do it?"

Hodgman later added confusion to the mix when he tweeted that it is actually "The Best Show" host Tom Scharpling who will play Egon's son, and not him. "Tom @Scharpling will be in Dan Aykroyd's Ghostbusters 3 as Harold Ramis's deadbeat son, who is also a ghost whisperer," so he wrote.

To start filming in Spring 2012, "Ghostbusters 3" will bring some of its original main cast back to the big screen. While Dan Aykroyd will return to play Stantz, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson are expected to reprise their roles as Dana Barrett, Dr. Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddemore.
