Movie

Weighing in on the new look at today's Catwoman and Batman, Newmar says, 'It was a heck of a lot more fun when Adam West and I did it.'

AceShowbiz - In the middle of "The Dark Knight Rises" hype, Julie Newmar who is famously known for portraying Catwoman in the 1960's Batman series offered her thought about the new actors playing the feline thief and the superhero. She talked about the difference between her era and today's.

"This is what I get from people when they talk to me about the original Catwoman and compare it to the latter ones," the movie vet said as quoted by Hero Complex. "I think people prefer the more humorous one, the lighter one."

"People seem to complain that the recent ones are too dark in spirit. But that's what reflects what's going on. That's what film and acting and everything is," she went on before adding, "I don't envy someone that has to play Batman or Catwoman today. It was a heck of a lot more fun when Adam West and I did it."

In the upcoming sequel to 2008's "The Dark Knight", Catwoman is played by Anne Hathaway and Batman is tackled by Christian Bale. In it, both are dressed in their signature dark form-fitting outfit, but the feline has googles as her additional accessory. The Catwoman new look drew mixed reactions from fans, but the actress shrugged it off.

"I was not going to admit it: I asked someone to send me a few reactions [to the photo], and I happen to know that MTV's reaction was 'meh'," Anne shared. "What I am happy to say is, if you didn't like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do. And if you did like the photo, you have excellent taste."

In a separate interview with Chelsea Handler, Anne revealed it took a hard work for her to fit in the tight costume. She dished on, "I'm a vegetarian, and right now I'm living on kale and dust for the training. That catsuit's unforgiving!"

"The Dark Knight Rises" will be released across the nation on July 20, 2012, with Christopher Nolan serving behind the lens, and Tom Hardy is added as a new cast member to play villainous Bane. The other supporting actors include Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and Gary Oldman.

Most recently, it was revealed that Catwoman might find her sidekick in Juno Temple. The Queen Anne of "The Three Musketeers" reportedly will play a "street smart Gotham gal" Holly Robinson. According to Total Film, she's the young prostitute who was first seen in Frank Miller's "Batman: Year One".

She, however, declined to comment on the rumor. "I can't talk about that. But I think it's going to be f***ing unbelievable. Christopher Nolan is awesome! There's something really gentlemanly about him. He's got an insane, incredible vision going on. Just getting the opportunity to work with him is awesome."
