Set to direct 'Kite' in live-action mode, David R. Ellis is already a fan of the original writer and director of the cult anime.

AceShowbiz - While David R. Ellis' movie "Shark Night 3D" is being watched in theaters, Distant Horizon and Detalle Films announce that the director has signed up to direct the remake of Japanese cult anime "Kite (2014)". Distant's Anant Singh and Brian Cox are producing along with Detalle's Moises Cosio and Alejandro Saevich.
"We are delighted to be collaborating with David Ellis," Singh said. "We believe that his talent as an action director and his commercial sensibilities will bring immense value to the project and make it a success."
Yasuomi Umetsu directed the original film which was released in 1998. Ellis, who is a fan of the writer/director of the original anime, will direct the movie in live-action. Production will start in January next year.
"Kite" tells the story of a young woman living in a dystopian future whose policeman father is murdered by a member of the corrupt security force. She seeks vengeance with the aid of her father's former partner who, as it turns out, was the person who had him killed.
Words are the new version will take place in the not-too-distant future when a police state has arisen in response to perceived threats of terrorism.
