Dan Aykroyd: 'Ghostbusters 3' to Start Filming in 2012 and Focus on New Generation

"Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray," so the Dr. Raymond Stantz depicter said in an interview at Dennis Miller Radio. "That is our hope. We have an excellent script."

"What we have to remember is that '' is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold, myself and Sigourney," 59-year-old Aykroyd added.

The Canadian actor who lent his voice for 2010's "" opened up, "The concept is much larger than any individual role and the promise of 'Ghostbusters 3' is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood."

Revealing that the plot will follow a new generation of Ghostbusters team, Aykroyd said, "My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can't drive the cadillac. He's got a bad knee and can't carry the packs... Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that's the promise. We're gonna hand it to a new generation."

Asked about who will take on the new characters, the "" actor hinted, "I like this guy from the '' show. But there's going to be a casting. We're going to see everyone that wants to do it." He added that that the project will add "three guys and a young woman" to the cast line-up.

"Ghostbusters 3" will bring some of its original main cast back to the big screen. While Aykord will return to play Stantz, , Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson are expected to reprise their roles as Dana Barrett, Dr. Egon Spengler as well as Winston Zeddemore respectively.
