Through his representative, the actor who is best known for his portrayal of Gil Grissom on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" shared to PEOPLE that he and his wife, Gina Cirone, have welcomed twins, who were born prematurely via surrogate, on July 5 in Los Angeles.

Despite the premature birth, William's baby boy and girl are said to be doing great. "The babies are doing great and are improving every day and we can't wait for them to come home," so revealed the TV actor and his wife. No other details, including the twins' names and measurements, have been disclosed.

William married his biology teacher wife Gina in 2003. The 58-year-old actor, who left "CSI" in 2009 after nine seasons, himself is already a father to 36-year-old Maite, his daughter with first wife Joanne Brady, and a grandfather to Maite's two young sons. He will be seen starring opposite Adrien Brody in "Detachment".
