Serving as a disc jokey in his own party, the 'Grenade' crooner caters his guests with a mix of oldies and his 'Doo - Wops and Hooligans' tracks.

AceShowbiz - Bruno Mars is hosting a party in a new commercial ad for the 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards. The "Lazy Song" singer serves as a house DJ, playing classic songs like "Roxanne", "Long Tall Sally" and "I Feel Good" as well as spinning his own single "Grenade".

"I think what you're going to see is a little of my personality, a lot of my influences and a lot of people having a good time," Bruno told MTV. "I think that this year's VMAs is a celebration and a party, and MTV did a great job of putting this commercial together."

"This is my party; I'm DJing. I'm playing music that I grew up listening to," he said. "I grew up listening to oldies, and so every time I hear, like, Little Richard or James Brown, The Police, it does something to me. It gets me in the party mood, and I'm just hoping to bring it to this party."

2011 MTV VMAs will be held on August 28 at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Pitbull, Ne-Yo, Lady GaGa, Adele, Bruno Mars, Chris Brown and Lil Wayne are set to perform. Presenters include Nicki Minaj, Taylor Lautner, Drake, Joe Jonas, Jared Leto, Selena Gomez, Seth Rogen and Kim Kardashian.

Details of the awards show were recently unleashed. In an interview with The Wrap, MTV president Stephen Friedman and VMA executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic revealed that the show will feature an indoor black carpet, a theme of the space-time continuum of music, and something from GaGa that's never seen before.

Talking about what the Mother Monster has in store to open the event, Friedman said, "It's something the world has never seen from her. The last time she performed on the show she raised the bar, and this is going to be unlike anything she has ever done."

Beside handing Moonmen and seeing live performances from A-listers, VMAs will also treat viewers with a sneak peek of Minaj's "Fly" music video which features Rihanna, a new preview of "Jersey Shore", a tribute to Amy Winehouse and Britney Spears as well as a first-ever footage of "The Hunger Games".
