This Luc Besson-directed biopic has Michelle Yeoh portraying the famous Burmese female politician and follows her remarkable journey from housewife to opposition leader.

AceShowbiz - The first teaser trailer for "The Lady" has been made available for viewing pleasure. Coming out via Yahoo! Movies, the promo video gives a sneak peek at Michelle Yeoh as she takes on the role of Burmese revolutionary leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi.

The teaser opens with beautiful scenery of Myanmar, before it moves on to show a group of military men putting on barb wires on the top of bamboo fence. It then cuts to a footage where Yeoh's Suu Kyi makes her way onto the stage, where thousands of supporters greet her with their wild cheering.

At almost the same time the teaser hit the web, Europa Corp. unleashed the first poster for the biopic. Designed by Shepard Fairey, the artist who also created Barack Obama's Hope poster, the one-sheet is inspired by the 2009 Freedom to Lead artwork, which Fairey created with real Suu Kyi's image on it.

"The Lady" tells the true story of the Burmese pro-democracy female politician who is also a Nobel Peace Prize winner. This Luc Besson-directed biopic will follow her journey from housewife bringing up children in Oxford to taking on the power of Myanmar's generals by becoming opposition leader.

It is set in between 1988, when Suu Kyi left Oxford to visit her sick mother and ended up staying, and 1999, the year when her husband Michael Aris died after being diagnosed with cancer. Aris himself had been forbidden from entering Myanmar, a decision that left Suu Kyi with the most impossible option of whether to stay or go.

David Thewlis is cast to play Yeoh's on-screen husband. William Hope, Sahajak Boonthanakit, Teerawat Mulvilai and Antony Hickling are in supporting cast ensemble. The biopic itself is scheduled to be premiered at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival on September 12.
