The Roger Sterling of the AMC series describes January as a sweetheart who has to play an 'intimidating character' after her former on-screen son commented that she is 'unapproachable'.

AceShowbiz - John Slattery isn't letting negative comment smothering January Jones' image. The actor playing Roger Sterling on "Mad Men" has come in defense of his co-star after Jared Gilmore, her former on-screen son, gave his replacement a warning about the TV actress.

Met at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' Performers Peer Group 2011 Emmys cocktail reception on Monday night, August 22, the 49-year-old actor told E! Online, "Well, it's an intimidating character." He elaborated his remark, "I mean, that's the character. Betty Draper is an intimidating woman I suppose, if you were a seven-year-old boy [or] her son."

John also rejected speculations that January is behaving like a diva around the set. "No, she's a sweetheart," he stressed. "We got lucky. We don't have anybody like that." Additionally, the Howard Stark of "Iron Man 2" gushed, "I have no doubts she'll make a great mother."

January was recently dubbed "unapproachable" by Jared. During a chat with TV Guide, the 11-year-old actor advised his replacement to "be careful around" the actress. He explained, "She's not as approachable as the others. She's really serious about what she does. Everyone else is so nice."
