Many devoted fans of the original 1987 movie believe that nobody could replace Jennifer Grey and the late Patrick Swayze to play Baby and Johnny respectively.

AceShowbiz - Shortly after Lionsgate announced the plan to remake 1987's hit movie "Dirty Dancing", controversies among fans on the internet couldn't be avoided. People took to Twitter to spark debates about whether or not the movie should be remade, making the movie's title a trending topic on the microblogging site.

Many of the devoted fans of the original film believe that Jennifer Grey's Baby and the late Patrick Swayze's Johnny are flawless and irreplaceable. "#DirtyDancing should not be remade!! There is only 1 Frances "Baby" Houseman, & Johnny Castle, that's Patrick Swayze & Jennifer Grey!" tweeted a user named Laura Nicole.

"Johnny and Baby can't be replaced! Sorry, trying to remake #DirtyDancing is the worst idea EVER!" another fan named Courtney Johnson added, while a devotee named Allegra Leigh quipped, "Can I say that I am thoroughly disappointed that they are trying ruin a great movie like #dirtydancing with a remake?"

"What's this I hear about then remaking #dirtydancing ? Uhh...NO!!!! NO!!! And NO!!! don't even think about ruining it by remaking it!" a user named Filly added. Meanwhile, Dina Corpuz wrote, "PLEASE, dont remake #dirtydancing .. it will just ruin how amazing the original was !"

Despite their disagreement, there were some other people who apparently didn't mind about the remake idea. The orginal cast, Grey, threw her support for the project. "I love @Kennyortega and trust that he will do something special #DirtyDancingRemake," so she tweeted.

Among the supporters, there was "Dancing with the Stars" judge Carrie Ann Inaba who had some suggestion for the cast. "if they do a #dirty dancing remake - THEY BETTER USE DEREK HOUGH @derekhough There's no one better for the role!!!" so she tweeted, before adding that Lea Michele should be cast as Baby.

Meanwhile, Rory Albanese, "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" executive producer, thinks that "Star Wars" helmer George Lucas should direct the new "Dirty Dancing" movie. He tweeted, "They should haves George Lucas remake 'Dirty Dancing', then he can have Greedo be the one to put baby in the corner. #WriteANewMovie."

Lionsgate confirmed yesterday that the studio have hired "High School Musical" helmer Kenny Ortega to direct the remake of "Dirty Dancing". "We believe that the timing couldn't be better to modernize this story on the big screen, and we are proud to have Kenny Ortega at the helm," Joe Drake, president of Lionsgate's Motion Picture Group, explained about the project.

The original "Dirty Dancing" tells the story about a teenage girl on summer vacation with her family at a Catskills resort in 1963. She fell in love with the head dance instructor and his risque moves.
