AceShowbiz - First official trailer from an upcoming female-driven action film "Haywire" has been premiered during the San Diego Comic Con 2011 on Friday, July 22. The trailer features fierce-looking Gina Carano's Mallory Kane who gets violent in multiple action-packed and fighting scenes.
Developed under Relativity Media and directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, the movie centers on Kane, a highly trained operative who works for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world. She struggles to protect her family and plans to take revenge after being betrayed during a mission in Barcelona.
Director Soderbergh opened up during the Comic Con panel that he got the idea of creating a female-centric thriller after watching Carano fighting in an MMA match. "You've never seen anyone perform like this... in a cage," he explained.
He then called screenwriter Lem Dobbs to team up with him in writing a screenplay for this film, which also has Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas and Ewan McGregor in the casting department.
Soderbergh also revealed that during the shooting, Carano Carano did all her fighting scenes on her own without any stunt double. Tatum, who also joined the director at the panel with Carano, added, "They wore padding, but when Gina was punching Michael in the ribs, she was really punching him in the ribs." Carano chimed in, insisting that Tatum actually asked her to kick harder so he was the one who should be blamed.
Tatum also shared that it's a bit hard for him to beat a woman in this film. He said, "I had to hit her with a ketchup bottle and I couldn't do it. She called me the p-word, so then I did it for my 'manity.' But then she hit me back twice as hard, and I didn't want to do it anymore."
Carano added that starring in the film was a "crazy, adrenaline rush." She admitted that she preferred the physical scenes, but she learned acting 101 by working in this film and now she has a greater appreciation of the craft.
Aside from directing the movie, Sodenbergh is also slated as the producer along with Gregory Jacobs and Ryan Kavanaugh. "Haywire" is set to arrive in U.S theaters on January 20, 2012.
