AceShowbiz - Three actors have been tapped to fill major roles in "Game of Thrones" season 2. They are former "Camelot" star Liam Cunningham, "Repo Men" actress Carice van Houten, and Tony Award-winning actor Stephen Dillane.

Cunningham will take the role of Davos Seaworth, a former smuggler who earns the nickname "The Onion Knight" after smuggling food into Stannis Baratheon's besieged castle during the war that put Robert Baratheon on the Iron Throne. In the next chapter, Stannis will enlist Davos' help in his effort to seize the Iron Throne from King Joffrey.

Dutch beauty van Houten lands the part of Melisandre, a priestess of R'hllor, who gives advices to Stannis in his quest to claim the Iron Throne. Her character has prophetic powers that give her partial knowledge of future events. Though she has a smooth, controlled, and often friendly disposition, many people feel intimidated or threatened by her presence.

Meanwhile, playing Stannis will be Dillane, who is also known for his portrayal of Thomas Jefferson in HBO's mini-series "John Adams". As the eldest younger brother of late King Robert, Stannis believes he is the rightful heir of the Iron Throne. He is humorless and authoritative, but is gradually succumbing to the power of his newfound religion.

Previously, Gwendoline Christie has been cast as Brienne, the Maid of Tarth, while Natalie Dormer has been set to portray Margaery Tyrell. All of them will join the cast ensemble of season 2 which will debut in spring 2012.
