First Trailer of Vera Farmiga's 'Higher Ground' Debuted

Depicting the life of a faithful Christian woman named Corrine in the 1960s era, the drama film is directed by and starring Farmiga herself.

AceShowbiz - First trailer of Vera Farmiga's directorial debut film, "Higher Ground", has just been unleashed. In addition to taking the director's seat, Farmiga also plays the main character Corrine, a devoted Christian woman who has a lifelong struggle with her faith.

Set in 1960s, "Higher Ground" tells the story of Corrine who lives during the feminist movement era. In the movie, she's described as a woman who has a strong intellectual curiosity. After her family falls apart when she enters the high school, Corrine meets a young guitarist named Ethan. She then begins to question her own belief after finding out that her faith is shattered when she and Ethan join a tight-knit fundamentalist community.

The film is based on a novel titled "This Dark World: A Memoir of Salvation Found and Lost" by Carolyn Biggs, who also provides the script for the movie. Joining Farmiga in the cast ensemble are Donna Murphy, John Hawkes,Dagmara Dominczyk, Bill Irwin, Joshua Leonard, Norbert Leo Butz, Nina Arianda, and Ebon-Moss Bachrach.

The film was first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival back in January. It is slated to hit U.S. theaters on August 26.
