Starz has pulled the plug on "Camelot" after only one season. The network decided not to exercise its option on the Arthurian drama series "due to significant production challenges". Detailing further, Deadline reports "scheduling conflicts with some of the actors" have been cited as part of the problem for the show.
Starring Joseph Fiennes, Jamie Campbell Bower and Eva Green among others, "Camelot" was not actually a flop for Starz. It set the network's largest ever opening for a new drama in early April and drew the second-highest viewership for the series with its season finale after being on a ratings upswing for its last few episodes.
The Ireland-shot costume drama, however, averaged less than a million viewers per episode. The ambitious project also had a trouble competing with HBO's breakout fantasy "Game of Thrones" and Showtime's better-reviewed historical drama "The Borgias".
Starz is looking forward to the return of "Spartacus", which is retitled "Spartacus: Vengeance", in January 2012.
