Russell Crowe Could Be Superman's Father in 'Man of Steel'

The 'Robin Hood' actor is reportedly in discussions to take the role of Jor-El, Superman's father from Krypton, in the 'Superman' remake.

AceShowbiz - Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures might have found a father figure for "Man of Steel" in Russell Crowe. Variety first broke the news, reporting that the "Robin Hood" thesp is in talks to star as Jor-El, Superman's biological father from planet Krypton.

So far, the casting department includes Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, and Michael Shannon. Cavill will star as Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman, with Amy playing Lois Lane. Meanwhile, Diane will take the role of Clark's mother Martha Kent, and Kevin plays Clark's father Jonathan Kent. Michael will portray General Zod.

This "Superman" reboot is expected to hit U.S. theaters in 2012. Zack Snyder sits in the directorial chair, with David S. Goyer providing the script and Christopher Nolan serving as producer.

Crowe's last notable film was "The Next Three Days", which hit cinemas across the United States on November 19, 2010. He will next be seen in "The Man with the Iron Fist", starring opposite Lucy Liu and RZA.
