After the Derek Shepherd depicter says the upcoming season will be the last for him, his rep claims the actor's statement was taken out of context.

AceShowbiz - Patrick Dempsey is yet to officially retire "Grey's Anatomy" after next season. Following his statement that the eighth season will be the last for him, his representative clarifies the situation, stating "He was referring to the fact that his contract is up at the end of next season and we have no idea what the future holds."

Report of Dempsey's departure hit the web after the lead actor told the Italian edition of Vanity Fair, "It [season 8] will be my last." He added, "I don't know what will happen with the other characters, but for me, it's done."

The on-screen husband of Ellen Pompeo on the ABC drama series claimed that leaving Seattle Grace after seven years will be "bittersweet because it's been great and a great part of my life. But I can't see me doing it anymore."

While the eighth season will not be the last for Dempsey, creator Shonda Rhimes is approaching the coming season as if it is the finale. "It might be the last hurrah for a lot of them; you never know," she said earlier this month. "I really don't know and I don't presume to know. Everybody has an individual choice to make and I get that.... All the originals are in play."
